Garth L. Childs

HUNTINGTON-Garth L. Childs, age 67, returned to Heavenly Father on May 15, 2011 in Price, Utah. He was born March 10, 1944 in Price, Utah to Max L. and Vivian Renee Smith Childs. He was sealed to Alyce Grace Geary on June 18, 1971 in the Manti Temple.

Garth graduated from North Emery High School and also attended two years at College of Eastern Utah. He served an honorable mission in the Hill Cumorah Mission in New York and Pennsylvania. He also served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War from 1964-1968 and served with the Utah National Guard during Desert Storm from Jan. 24, 1991-June 18, 1991. He was an EMT for more than 20 years with the Huntington Volunteer Fire Dept. where he worked for more than 35 years and became Fire Chief before retirement. He was a member of the Emery County Jeep Posse and the Utah Army National Guard. He served in the church as a Boy Scout Leader, a Stake Mission President, Elders Quorum President, Counselor in the Bishopric, Young Men's President and on the Stake High Council. Garth had worked for the Emery County School District, and also was a member of the American Legion and the Mine Rescue Team. He was named as Emery County "Person of the Year" in 1998, and Tri State Rocky Mtn. "Man of the Year" in 2002. Most importantly he was a good husband, father, grandfather, and servant of the Lord who endured to the end.

Garth is survived by his beloved wife Alyce Childs of Huntington, his four children: Kimberly Anne and Shayne Monson of Kingman, Ariz., Kristine Kate and David Bird of Huntington, Utah, Kevin Jeremiah M. Childs of Gresham, Ore., Kalvin David and April Childs of Washington, Utah, three grandsons, Kameron Monson, Derek Childs, and Connor Childs and four granddaughters, Kaira Monson, Grace Childs, Desiree Childs, and Kadrianne Bird. Garth is also survived by his brother, David and Kim Childs of Tacoma, Wash., his sister Myrna and Leonard Trauntvein of Nephi, Utah, and a sister-in-law Denise Allen of Emery, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Richard Childs, and an infant sister.

Friends may call for a visitation at the Heritage Funeral Home at 620 N. Main St. in Huntington on Wednesday May 18, 2011 from 6-8 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Huntington Stake Center on 100 North Main Street in Huntington. Burial with military honors from the Huntington American Legion will follow in the Huntington City Cemetery under the trusted care of the Heritage Funeral Home.

Myrna and Sarah Ellen

I am about 6 1/2 months old in this photo. This is my great-great grandmother.  Her name is Sarah Ellen Thompson Prtichett Wilson. The photo was taken in front of her home in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. You cannot tell from the photo but the house is two-story. I remember the huge kitchen, obviously from later visits. It had a huge coal stove where good food was cooked for many years prior to my visits. She was my Grandmother Smith's grandma. After her first husband, Levi Franklin Pritchett was murdered for the money in his safe, she took in borders to make a living and keep a roof over her head. Later, she married a second time and had another child.

There goes another great man, this one from Edna's family.

HOLGER LEVON GRUNDVIG

Holger Levon (Von) Grundvig 9/10/1926 ~ 7/11/2010 " .if ye are prepared, ye shall not fear." (D&C 38:30) PRICE - Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grand-father, uncle and friend passed away peacefully at home on July 11, 2010 surrounded by loving family members after a brief battle with mesothelioma. He was born on September 10, 1926 in Wattis, Utah to Daniel Richard and Nina Beryl Oviatt Grundvig. He was orphaned by the age of 13 months, and was raised by his maternal grandparents, Beaman and Sylvia Oviatt. He married Mona Lee Jewkes on June 24, 1948 in the Manti Temple. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a master electrician and was an electrical and heating and air conditioning contractor. He deeply loved his family, and has set a powerful example for his family to follow. His testimony of the gospel was evident in the way that he lived his life. He faithfully served in many callings including scouting, bishop, high councilor, and most recently as stake patriarch. He received the Silver Beaver award. With his wife, he served in the Papua New Guinea Mission, a temple mission to the Manti Temple and the Price Family History Center. He lived a quiet life of obedience and faithful service. His family will be eternally grateful for the legacy he has given them. He is survived by his wife, Mona Lee, Price, and his children, Gail (Loretta) Grundvig, West Jordan; Gardell (Carole) Grundvig, North Salt Lake; Loraina (Sidney) Nelson, Price; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Carlos Grundvig; sister, Sylvia Grundvig Leach; and grandson, Brad Schmidt. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Price 6th Ward located at 303 West 5th South - Price. A viewing will be held Wednesday, July 14, 2010 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Fausett Mortuary, 680 East 100 South - Price and July 15, 2010 from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Orangeville City Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary. Richard J. Childs

EMERY-Richard J. Childs, 51, loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle passed away peacefully July 27, 2003 at his home in Emery after a short battle with cancer. He was born March 12, 1952 in Price to Max and Renee Childs of Huntington. He married Denise Addley of Emery Feb. 23, 1974 in Emery. Together they have three children; Justin Childs of Emery, Steven and (Katie) Childs of Helper, and Mindy and (Zac) Crawford of Ferron. One grandchild, Gage Crawford and a precious granddaughter on the way.

He is also survived by two brothers; Garth and (Alyce) Childs of Huntington, David and (Kim) Childs of Tacoma, Wash.

Richard was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved fishing, camping, riding 4-wheelers, working with his friends at Nielson Construction, and being with his family which he loved dearly. He also served 25 years with the Emery County Search and Rescue and about 10 years as a volunteer fire chief in the Emery Fire Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister, and his in-laws Rex and Barbara Addley.

Funeral services will be held July 31 at 1 p.m. in the Emery Ward chapel in Emery. A viewing will be held from 11 a.m.- 12:45 p.m. prior to the funeral, and a viewing will also be held July 30 from 6-8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale. Burial will be at the Emery City Cemetery.
